Hush

If there is anyone reading this that doesn't know me personally, they probably won't know the simple fact that I am a big, big fan of music. "Fan" doesn't really do it justice but I don't want to freak anyone out by using the term "fanatic". I guess it's fair to say that I don't "like" music. I need music. It has always been a benchmark in my life and when I hear a song from a particular time in my life it can transport me back to that place and time. I know I'm not unique in this way but the power it has on me and my feelings really startles me at times.

I had the iPod on shuffle last night while cleaning up the kitchen after dinner. The girls were dancing and playing when a particular song came on. It's a soft, soothing lullaby that I've always loved. Mina stopped dead in her tracks. I watched her stand there in front of the speakers....motionless....absorbing every bit of it.

Go to sleep and hush little darling
It's time for bed, time to put out the light
Sweet dreams are awaiting behind your closed eyes
and a blanket of night
Where the bed bugs don't bite
Go to sleep and hush until morning
You've said all your prayers
Time to make them come true
Don't worry your daddy is here
If you need him tonight
Ease your mind
Rest your eyes and sleep tight
Goodnight

"Mama? What IS this?" We played it 12 times more until it was time to go to bed. We sang it again at bedtime. Her love of this song really resonated with me. Not only is this child passionate about music (like her mother and father) but I can see that it is and very well could continue to be a need in her life.  Of course, I find this comforting as it is something I can relate to.  And support her in.

The song that Mina was so moved by is by a band that is very near and dear to my heart. Sadly, they are no more. They were only around for two albums but whatta swan song.

So, today I'm sharing this music with you. These songs are timeless for me and, hopefully, could turn out to be the same for you.  I'm always a bit hesitant to "share" them with anyone (ha! see?  so personal for me) as I dread that moment when the nose scrunches up and the words spill out.... "yeah....well...they're not really my kind of music".  So, try to ignore the cheesy 90's video - we all lived it (and have the bad photos to prove it).

Be patient, hush.....and listen.

(Sorry...no video for "Hush" but you can find the song on iTunes as well as here )
