Zen du Jour

Definitely do this.  If anything, it's a nice break during your day and your brain will thank you.

(Suzanne, you rock for putting this on your blog!)

If there is anyone reading this that doesn't know me personally, they probably won't know the simple fact that I am a big, big fan of music. "Fan" doesn't really do it justice but I don't want to freak anyone out by using the term "fanatic". I guess it's fair to say that I don't "like" music. I need music. It has always been a benchmark in my life and when I hear a song from a particular time in my life it can transport me back to that place and time. I know I'm not unique in this way but the power it has on me and my feelings really startles me at times.

I had the iPod on shuffle last night while cleaning up the kitchen after dinner. The girls were dancing and playing when a particular song came on. It's a soft, soothing lullaby that I've always loved. Mina stopped dead in her tracks. I watched her stand there in front of the speakers....motionless....absorbing every bit of it.

Go to sleep and hush little darling
It's time for bed, time to put out the light
Sweet dreams are awaiting behind your closed eyes
and a blanket of night
Where the bed bugs don't bite
Go to sleep and hush until morning
You've said all your prayers
Time to make them come true
Don't worry your daddy is here
If you need him tonight
Ease your mind
Rest your eyes and sleep tight

"Mama? What IS this?" We played it 12 times more until it was time to go to bed. We sang it again at bedtime. Her love of this song really resonated with me. Not only is this child passionate about music (like her mother and father) but I can see that it is and very well could continue to be a need in her life.  Of course, I find this comforting as it is something I can relate to.  And support her in.

The song that Mina was so moved by is by a band that is very near and dear to my heart. Sadly, they are no more. They were only around for two albums but whatta swan song.

So, today I'm sharing this music with you. These songs are timeless for me and, hopefully, could turn out to be the same for you.  I'm always a bit hesitant to "share" them with anyone (ha! see?  so personal for me) as I dread that moment when the nose scrunches up and the words spill out.... "yeah....well...they're not really my kind of music".  So, try to ignore the cheesy 90's video - we all lived it (and have the bad photos to prove it).

Be patient, hush.....and listen.

( video for "Hush" but you can find the song on iTunes as well as here )

Greetings. Hi dere.

This needs NO introduction.

Yep! Yep! Yep! Yep! Yep! Yep! Yep! Yep! Yep!

(in case you were born AFTER Star Wars came out, the little black thing that makes a ringing noise is a phone. A telephone. That was plugged into the wall. And you had to sit by it in order to talk to because there was a cord attached to it.)

Not much, really...

So I've had this wonderful day. I totally expected it to be lame and tiring and a lot of work but it was, well, nice. Saturdays the husband works his third day of 13 hours at the job (four days off is nice but the three days on are pure hell) so not only do I have two small kids that are sick of their mom and want "Daaaaaaaddy!" at every turn but mommy wants "Daaaaaaaaaddy" as well because she needs a cotton-pickin' break.

Much to my surprise the girls have been playing together well, the day has flown by and I managed to get the groceries we needed. Then, on top of that, I've heard from FIVE (count 'em five!) friends of mine that I haven't heard from in months. It's easy to get stuck in your rut of being The Mom and not reconnecting with your friends (which is really heartbreaking for a former Cruise Director such as myself) so it was really, really nice to have them all pop up in their own individual ways and, quite simply, make my day.

Here's hoping your day is a pleasant surprise as well....happy Saturday!

(I'm including some pics of the long, lost friends that I'm so glad to have found least the ones I have pics of)

(Esteban de Ville...or, Steve, as I fondly refer to him)

(Lori Ramon rocking the mic. Hard.)

Long time, no blog

For the one or two people reading this blog (ha!), I apologize for my lack of blogging. I want to use this space to be more positive...have found that I tend to be a smidge melancholy or pensive in my blogs and I need to just blog from my happy place (ha!).

To start this change, I'm sharing this video that, quite simply, made me guffaw. And Lord knows, I love me some guffawin'....
